In my frayed old dressing gown I found
A broken hairband.
I know not where
I met her.
Names I forget.
But this broken hairband commands reflection and regret
For her and all those before.
And others, if there are more
Grief
Sometimes my belief
Is that grief
Conquers all.
Then I recall
The air
In late August
Carrying hay
And coming Autumn.
Such sweet air
Carries no despair.
Fantasies of Twos and Threes
Fantasies of twos and threes.
Hard bought kisses
From scheming young misses
Create an old rake’s blisses
Where girl’s perfume
Hangs on hands
In lonely rooms.
Lou Who Was Known for Wearing 1 Shoe
There was a young lady named Lou
Who was known for wearing 1 shoe.
When they asked her why
She’d point to the sky,
And say, “there flies my other shoe!”.

As the rain fell
I thought of our love
Of rain.
You and I
Share the same sky.
But does love
Hide inside the rain.

When a young man with a perm
Said, “truly you are a worthless worm!”.
I said to him, “Coker,
You’ve always been a joker!”,
As with shears I chopped that perm!

As I
Grow older, I
Doze more
In my armchair.
I wonder
When and Where
I will die.
