As I Drink My Red Wine

As I drink
My red wine
I idly think
On Dowson’s rhyme.

The poet took delight
In women and wine.
On this December night
I have my wine.

Webcam

A young lady who’s known as Pam
Spends her working day live on webcam.
Both her and Miss Rose
Expose more than their toes.
But my wife she’s broken my webcam!

Adam and Eve

There was a young lady named Eve
Who fell for a guy called Adam.
But she said, “its such a crime
As his name doesn’t rhyme with mine,
So I’ll marry his best friend Steve!”

Devious Dan and His Cunning Plan

There was an elderly gentleman named Dan
Who hatched a devious and cunning plan
Involving lots of sinning
With beautiful young women.

I Met a Young Lady in Heels

I met a young lady in heels
Who said, “old Father Time he steals
The rose away
Nothing may stay.
Which is why I wear only heels!”.

On Hearing Sirens Pass By

On hearing sirens pass by
I think on Philip Larkin
And Rhyme
While I
Have time.

Philip Larkin’s poem Ambulances frequently comes to mind when ambulances pass me by. You can find an analysis of Larkin’s fine poem here, https://interestingliterature.com/2017/05/a-short-analysis-of-philip-larkins-ambulances/.

I Am Birdsong

I have heard
A solitary bird
Sing to me
From a tree
In the park
As the dark
Came softly down.

I have found
In his song
Melancholy and beauty
For that is part
Of mine own heart.
I am sweet birdsong,
Love, lust and dust.

Filthy Miss Pearl

I know a young lady named Pearl
Who is a wicked and filthy girl!
When she enters my study
Her feet are so muddy
That I berate that filthy Miss Pearl!

Philosophical Gwen

When a philosophical young lady named Gwen
Climbed to the top of Big Ben,
And a policeman called Lyme
Said, “tell me the time”.
“Time has no real existence”, said Gwen!
