Wind
Wind Blown Flowers
Blackbird
In Her Hair
Circular
Sweet Cut Grass
Leaving
Sweet cut grass
Gives me pleasure
In soft summer weather,
As I pass
Along the churchyard path.
For below
There is no
Sweet cut grass
To pass.
When a young lady said, with indignation,
“You men all malign my spotless reputation!”.
I said, “my dear Rose
Please pass me my clothes.
And what was that about your reputation?”.
There once was a forgetful girl of Peru
Who was famous for losing her right shoe.
One hot day in May
They found it in Bombay –
Which was strange, as she never left Peru!
They say that the gorgeous Miss White
Came round to mine late last night.
Now my true love Miss Lou
Is beating me black and blue.
But ‘twas Miss Right, not Miss White!
A most forlorn young man named Shaun
Said, as he mowed the public lawn,
“All things must pass.
We are but grass.
And this hay fever makes me yawn!”.
There once was a kindly old squire
Who was famous for his fine fire.
His old wife Jane
Always liked to complain.
And the young housemaid stoked the fire …
There was a young lady named Fay
Who composed a fine poem each day.
She was religious about that
And wore a large hat,
Though not when she went to pray!
When a young lady named Nell
Out of a high window fell,
She landed on Dan
(A most handsome man).
I’ve already said that Nell fell …
On my way home
I touched the stone
Of my local church.
And longed to stay
With the singing birds
On this summer evening.
I have oft heard
The birds singing
And regretted leaving.
I envy them
For, unlike men
They do not weep.
For they see not
The final sleep.
While I
Knowing that man must die
Have the beauty of birdsong,
Which does not last long
