When a wicked young lady named Nell
Died and went straight down to Hell,
She said, with a sigh,
“I do miss the sky,
And this Hell has a terrible smell!”

Putin is Ozymandias
Pondering on Vladimir Putin and the war in Ukraine yesterday, I was reminded of Shelley’s fine poem Ozymandias:
I met a traveller from an antique land,
Who said—“Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;
And on the pedestal, these words appear:
My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings;
Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.”

Putin will pass and the sands of time obliterate the terrible regime he has built in Russia and is currently trying to impose on the brave people of Ukraine.
I stand with Ukraine.
Miss White’s Rose
When a young lady named White
Showed me her rose last night,
I admired that flower
For many an hour.
Then her boyfriend started a fight!
Fumbling Hands
I have gone with desire
And jumped into the fire
And have found
A truth profound:
That all flesh tires
And hands that fumble
Must crumble
Into dust.

I Saw a Young Lady in Red
I saw a young lady in red
Standing in my room on her head.
I said to her, “Bess,
I do like your dress,
But why is it covering your head!”
There Once Was a Horsewoman Named Steed
There once was a horsewoman named Steed
Who, on developing a very great need,
Said to a gentleman named Stride,
“Do you fancy a quick ride?”,
Which fulfilled that great need of Steed!
Waning
In youth we burn the candle
At both ends and pretend
That waning candlelight can somehow fight
The oncoming night. Then in age
Our wracking cough
Says all lights
Will go off
The Price of Vice
When a young lady named Price
Said, “do you 2 like vice?”
Me and Miss Leigh
Said, “we like 3!
But we can’t afford your price!”
