Poet Kevin Morris Interviewed by Ariadne Sawyer of Vancouver Co-op Radio’s the World Poetry Reading Series

On Monday 7 February, I was interviewed by Ariadne Sawyer of Vancouver Co-op Radio’s the World Poetry Reading Series. During my interview I talked about and read from my recently released collection Leaving and Other Poems, which is available from Amazon in Kindle and paperback.

The show is scheduled to be broadcast at 9 pm (UK time) on Thursday 10 February. My interview takes place some 10-15 minutes into the show. In addition I read my poem “If My Clock Antique” at the end of the broadcast.

A Shiver, a Sigh, a Smile: Audrey Driscoll’s Review of Leaving and Other Poems by K Morris

I was delighted to receive a 4 star review of my recently published collection Leaving and Other Poems:

“Morris has a knack for creating vivid pictures with few words. “The Lighted Department Store” is a perfect example. Reading it, I saw the cheerful lights of store and pub, I heard the shouts of drinkers and the clink of glasses, but at the end, I was reminded, comes darkness and silence.

The brevity and conciseness of these poems make this book perfect for readers looking for philosophical glimpses into life.”

My Forthcoming Poetry Collection

On 21 August 2019, I published my “Selected Poems, (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07WW8WXPP/). The book encompasses poems composed by me between 2013-2019, and is available in both a Kindle and paperback edition.

I am delighted to announce that I shall be releasing a further collection of my poetry in June/July 2020.

As a taster, I have included below my poem “Dead Stop”, which appears in the forthcoming collection:

“Perhaps some things should not be said
In poetry,
Or maybe
They can not be said
Meaningfully by me.

As does nearly always happen
My train stopped, dead
At Clapham
(Though not for its proper, brief
Stay). We did not pull away.
What can be said
About grief
(Not experienced by me)?
Perhaps some things should not be said
In poetry.

When, that evening I came back
The track
At Clapham
Was clear.
We made good time.
Though a drear
Thought did cross my mind,
But I find
That some things can not easily be said
In rhyme
By me, as I sit here, warm
Thinking of the ajacent platform
And how our train stopped, dead,
But, perhaps some things should not be said
In poetry,
Or at least by me”.

At present my collection is untitled. Therefore, in the time between now and it’s publication I need to come up with a meaningful title for my book!

I will, of course keep you updated on the books progress here.

A reviewer writes as follows:
“This is the 3rd collection of poems I’ve read by K. Morris, and with that comes a little weight. Obviously, I must like this writer’s work to continue
reading it, but surely there must be an expiry date for such great writing; one day I am sure to find a book by K. Morris that I do not enjoy.

Well, frankly, that day is not today.

Honestly, I think K. Morris may be a fountain of constant inspiration and depth – his writing is beautiful, and never fails to touch my heart whether crafted
for humour or profound meaning. I cannot imagine the day that I don’t enjoy his work.

If you enjoy reading poetry, then this collection of poems is the one for you. If you’ve never really read poetry before, but you want to start, K. Morris
is a great poet to begin with. I mean, you should always begin with the greats, shouldn’t you?

This collection contains a range of poems from joyous to sorrowful, humorous to harrowing. I cannot express enough how strongly I feel that you – yes,
you, reading this right now – should delve into K. Morris world, and his writing.

Overall, and very obviously, I really enjoyed this collection, and I highly recommend you pick up a copy.

(Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book from K Morris in exchange for an honest review. I would like to send a big thank you and congratulations to
K Morris for this collection, and its brilliance”.) .

Forthcoming Poetry Collection

A friend asked me recently whether I intend to publish a further collection of my poetry. The answer is yes, I aim to publish a further collection in early 2016.
Drawing together the book will entail reading through poems and determining what (and what not) to include. It also means deciding which poems to publish (as is) and which to amend. Finally the book will be proof read by a professional proof reader. As regards the latter, I always publish my poetry as written by me (poetry is a very personal thing as it expresses the poets inner soul and it is not, in my view the role of a proof reader and/or editor to suggest changes to the language and/or style employed by the poet. I use a proof reader to check for typographical errors and to correct punctuation by, for example replacing a comma with a semi colon where necessary).
As with my previous collections, I intend to include poems on a variety of topics, rather than producing a book replete with nature or humorous verse and nothing else,as this is what I personally look for in an anthology/collection of poetry. Variety is as someone once remarked, “the spice of life”.
