Listening to the news
Of the swift advance
Of Taliban
In Afghanistan.
Birdsong outside
My window
Takes me away
From the cruelty
Of today.

Try Writing Better Poetry
Whilst checking my Twitter notifications this morning, I came across the following gem:
“Recommended For You
Try writing better poems and see how you get on then”.
I am not sure how I should take that …!
Vixen’s Erotic Fiction
A young lady whose name is Vixen
Is well known for her erotic fiction.
When she comes round to mine
We drink lots of fine wine.
And then we engage in some fiction.
Her Feminine Ways
Oh see her feminine ways.
How sweetly she does flirt
To obtain that cute skirt.
And man pays
In diverse ways.
Although, its true
There may be pleasure too.
Jane Who Is Really Quite Kind
A young lady said,, “you will find
That sometimes, I can be quite kind”.
I said to her, “Jane,
Please put down that cane!
As Its not kind to my behind!”.
Punting
Punting.
The thrill
Of hunting
Will
Cause a man to lose
His money and common sense.
Pounds and pence
Are thrown away
On girls who choose
To join the boat
Bound for rocky shore.
Honey Who Likes Men with Money
A young lady whose name is Honey
Only dates men with lots of money.
My friend the actor
Managed to attract her.
But he survives on bread an honey!
When the Beautiful and Adventurous Miss Shilling
When the beautiful and adventurous Miss Shilling
Said, “sir, I am ready and willing!”.
I said, “that’s real great!
Come and join in Kate!
These rides on the fair are thrilling!”
Fantasies
Hot fantasies grow cold
With old
Men
Who obsess on them.
And what
Of hot
Fantasies tried?
The pleasure soon dies.
The Land of Lost Content (a Parody)
Below is my parody of Housman’s poem “The Land of Lost Content”. You can find a link to the original public domain poem at the end of my parody.

Into my heart an air that thrills
From yon far country blows:
What are those blue remembered thrills,
What squires, what housemaids are those?
That is the land of Squire Kent,
I see him with Jane,
The happy housemaid where he went.
I had better not explain!
