We ride
To forget
Regret.
We build inside
Savouring the mare’s stride.
Glide
And then slow
But oh
How quickly we let go
And in our fertile
Thrust
We proclaim our denial
That man is but dust

There Was A Young Lady Called Claire
There was a young lady called Claire
With whom I had an affair.
Her best friend Lou
Joined we two
Along with a girl named Flair!
There was a young lady called Claire
With whom I had an affair.
When her husband Drew
Caught us two
He kicked me down their stair!
I Awoke to Ravens Cawing
I awoke to ravens cawing.
Their voices sawing
Through my mind.
No peace can I find
From the bird of ill omen
Who mocked the Roman
As he withdrew from these shores,
The bird’s caws
Lost in sea and oars.
Forever Alone
He finds you online
Or over the phone
But he
And she
Are always alone.
In the hotel room
Perfume
Lingers on
Though she is gone
Back to the streets of stone
For she
And he
Are forever alone.
Thursday Morning Humour
There was a young lady called Lou
Who said she loved me true.
We had a hot date
With a girl called Kate
Who said she loved me too!
There was a young lady called Leigh
Who said “I am in love with thee!”.
I said “my wife Grace
Has an innocent face
And she’d love to meet you Leigh …!”.
There was a young lady called Leigh
Who invited me round for tea.
A bishep named Paul
Said “all men fall”
When he joined us 2 for tea!
“The Better Man” by Felix Dennis
A powerful reading by the late Felix Dennis of his poem “The Better Man”, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugW6-4rEEok.
Dennis was what used to be (and perhaps still is refered to) as a self made man. Being born into a humble background he made his money becoming a highly successful businessman. Besides business and poetry, Dennis was also a planter of trees and a very intriguing character. I encourage you to read more of his poems, many of which can be found online (https://www.poetryarchive.org/poet/felix-dennis, http://www.felixdennis.com/Poet/351/67DAYSOFDENNIS).

The Wind
As I walked home alone
Thinking on my poetry
The wind in the tree
Spoke to me.
Oh how often he
Breaks through
And tells me what is true!

Raining
As a long, hot summer slowly draws to its close in the UK, we have, thankfully (at long last) been experiencing bouts of rain. On the way home from the pub yesterday evening my guide dog Trigger and I got drenched to the skin in the wet stuff and (in accordance with the great law of sod) the rain virtually ceased as we reached my front door!
Despite my drenching, I am a lover of the rain. My recent soaking reminded me of my poem “Raining” which can be found here, https://newauthoronline.com/2015/10/28/raining/.
“The Writer’s Pen and Other Poems”, by K Morris, is now available for preorder in the Amazon Kindle store
I am pleased to announce that my collection of poems, “The Writer’s Pen and Other Poems” is now available for preorder in the Amazon Kindle store (the book goes live on 3 September so, if you order prior to that date, your purchase will be delivered on the publication date).
The title poem runs thus:
“You accuse me of hiding in my ivory tower.
I answer that I have no power,
Other than my pen
Which, when
It scratches,
Sometimes catches
The truth of the matter,
Causing the fine porcelain
Of your ideals to shatter,
Revealing the stain
Called human nature.
For each man is a prater
And the writer’s pen
Can interpret the hearts of men”.
To preorder “The Writer’s Pen” please visit https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07GD1LBMV/ (for the UK) and https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GD1LBMV/ (for the USA).
