As I Leafed Through Dusty Old Tomes

As I leafed through dusty old tomes

I heard a loud rattle of bones.

Twas merely a ghost

Stealing crumpets and toast,

But it distracted me from those tomes!

Do ghosts eat crumpets and toast? You live and learn.
    Here’s a ghostly poem I wrote.

A phantom who once lived in Brighton
Haunted a carriage called a phaeton.
He drove down to the sea
    With his friend, a banshee,
And all the folk they did frighten.

I’ve often seen ghosts eating all kinds of things. In fact I know one who eats nothing but steak and chips! Your poem made me smile, Vivienne. I wonder whether the ghost and banshee haunt the pebbly beach in Brighton? I remember walking across it in bare feet – rather an uncomfortable experience!
