Too Much Thinking

You left me alone
At the top of the street,
And I went home
While your feet,
Encased in shoes
You did not choose
To lose
Took you back
Down your own track.
Or perhaps I lack
The ability to understand
Your hug and hand.

Now I wait
And ponder on sense
And the present,
Or the past tense.
Is it too late?
A pointless question to state
Perhaps.
To collapse
Into meloncholy
Is folly.

I have a choice
To be morose
Or falsely jolly.
‘Tis better to use my voice
And ask than to drown
My frown
In a glass
Over a lass
Who may
Not think of me that way.
Lover or friend?
‘Tis better to know, than to pretend.

The Devil Is Grinning

The devil is grinning
At man’s obsession
With women.
A confession,
I have been there
And looped the loop to please
A Claire
Or Flair.

The devil is grinning
When certain kind of women
On man’s weakness seize
And draw him in
To sin,
Or simply tease
By hinting that the prize may be won.

In search of fun
Men after women run,
Or desirous of the prize
Of that look
In a girl’s eyes
That says “you are mine
Until the end of time”,
Although this may be mistook
For “you are mine
For the night
But, come the morning light …”.

The devil is grinning
At man’s obsession with women.
The biological drive
Causes us to strive
For that lustful look in a girl’s eyes …
Although it is perfectly true
That there is love too.

There Are Many Ointments

There are many ointments
For stings
And similar things.
And, for life’s disappointments
There is art,
Which, though it may not cause the heart
To sing
May, perchance, ease the sting
Of the she
Who rejects thee.

You Followed Me

You followed me into the bedroom
Bringing with you
The merest hint of perfume.
You stood there
Wholly unaware,
Chatting of what? I do not recollect.

Slim and near.
Respect for a long friendship held me
tight.
Or maybe
Fear.
I did not speak that night.

Inocent As Flowers

Inocent as flowers
Girls build ivory towers.
They reach for the sun
Hoping for a prince to come,
A boy
Who will bring joy
And love,
And protect
Them from harm.

He shows respect.
His charm
Would disarm
The most protective of mothers.
Her brothers
Think him a great guy,
But I
Know how lovers Come
And go
And how quick the gentle sun
Can turn and burn
The flower
In it’s oh so fragile tower

On seeing a happy couple

On seeing a happy couple, I smile
For there is no denial
That love
Is good.
Yet, after a while
I can not help but ponder on
How love is here, then gone.

Each joke
Which now produces laughter
May cause her to choke
On her anger in the end.
Or perhaps she will pretend
And maintain
A fixed smile to hide her disdain.

Coupledom is fun
Until her dress, thrown haphazard on the floor
Loses it’s alure
And his sweaty feet
Forever defeat
Passion’s heat.

The Shame Game

Shall we play
The game
Of shame
Where you pass
Moral judgement on me
But fail to see,
In the glass
The slightest trace
Of disgrace
In your own sweet face?

Shall I say
By way
Of defence
That you did such and such?
Tis all too much
And a pretence
Of defence
As 2 wrongs do not make a right.
So we fight
And the bed is cold at night.

Come the 1st of May

“Say,
Come the 1st of May,
Will you stay?
Shall we make romance
Our goal
As we dance around the Maypole?
And demonstrate to God above
Our abiding love?”

“My darling I will stay,
Come the 1st of May.
But you must pay
For my new dress
So as to impress.
Each girl
As I around the Maypole twirl.
Why dearest one, your face shows such distress …”.
