At A Time of Lockdown

At a time of lockdown
Some drown
Their sorrows, in beer or gin.
Yet alcohol is not
The only form of sin.

True, some may lose themselves in art.
But others grow hot.
Drink and art
Can not suffice.
Thoughts turn to vice.

Anticipation of pleasure,
For the coming warm weather
Will bring
(In summer and spring)
Roses into bloom.
And, despite the lockdown
Some men will not resist the perfume
Of roses.

The poet composes
And thinks “the woodland path
Along which I pass
Has no flowers in bloom,
But soon
Their scent will delight
Both day and night.
And I shall pass by
With a sigh.

Yet the woodland path
Is not wide
And when, on each side
There are such sweet blooms,
‘Tis not easy to pass,
And some may stray
From the narrow way …”.

Invitation to join poet Kevin Morris for an online poetry reading, at 8 pm (UK time) on Wednesday 9 April

For a while now, I have been mulling over the idea of doing a poetry reading. My original intention was that this would be an event held somewhere in Crystal Palace, with people physically in attendance. However, due to COVID19 (the Corona Virus), this is, sadly not possible. Hence I have decided to host a virtual event, details of which can be found below.

It remains my intention to hold a live event (with guests physically present) when COVID19 is resolved/the UK lock-down is over. In the meantime, I hope that you will be able to participate in the online event to be held at 8 pm, on Wednesday 9 April:

When I Saw A Girl In A Tank

When I saw a girl in a tank
And said, to the shop owner named Frank,
“Is that beautiful young woman a mermaid?”,
He said, “she is far from staid!”.
So I purchased that tank from Frank!

A Young Lady Dressed As A Ghost

A young lady dressed as a ghost
Haunts gentleman’s kitchens, whilst looking for toast.
She likes it quite hot
With a big cream pot.
But let us return to the toast!

A Young Lady Whose Morals Are Lose

A young lady whose morals are loose
Rode through the streets on a goose.
When I called her immoral,
It led to a quarrel,
So I roasted that young lady’s goose!

The Weather Was Chill

The weather was chill,
And the park still.
Few birds I heard
On this spring day.
Dickinson spoke, of feathered hope.
I would like to say
That Emily’s feathered thing
Will, through it’s song, bring
To birth a much brighter day.
But things don’t work that way.

When A Ghost Whose Name Is Dave

When a ghost whose name is Dave
Arose from a most ancient grave
And said, “you should be very scared!”,
I said, “have you not heard
Dave, that I am very brave!”.
