On seeing a happy couple

On seeing a happy couple, I smile
For there is no denial
That love
Is good.
Yet, after a while
I can not help but ponder on
How love is here, then gone.

Each joke
Which now produces laughter
May cause her to choke
On her anger in the end.
Or perhaps she will pretend
And maintain
A fixed smile to hide her disdain.

Coupledom is fun
Until her dress, thrown haphazard on the floor
Loses it’s alure
And his sweaty feet
Forever defeat
Passion’s heat.

A poem about my dog Trigger

One day, as I sat writing in my study, I became aware of my dog Trigger dreaming as he slept close by. This inspired my poem “Dog” https://newauthoronline.com/2017/02/26/kevin-morris-reading-his-poem-dog/

“Dog” can be found in my collection of poetry, “Refractions”, which is available in the Amazon Kindle store, https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01L5UC2H2

Afternoon limericks

There was a young lady from Humber
Who had an accident with a cucumber.
While preparing a salad for two
She tripped over my shoe
And entered a very deep slumber.

There was a young lady from Humber
Who had an accident with a cucumber.
While preparing a salad for two
She tripped over my shoe
And impaled herself on that cucumber.

There was a young lady named Ria
Who went hunting for a deer.
A stag crept up behind
And said “you will find
My antlers are extremely sharp I fear!”

There was a young man named Nile

There was a young man named Nile
Who fell in love with a crocodile.
The creature said “come close my dear
And let me whisper in your ear”.
And she smiled a beautiful smile …

This rhyme is out of time

This rhyme
Is out of time
And I have not the will
To set it right
Tonight.

I am no sage
Yet dream of a golden age
Where clocks kept slow time
And to rhyme
Was thought the proper thing to do.
Perhaps this view
Is at least half true.

No Rainbow

‘Tis said that the fool
Can not his passions overrule.
I know
‘Tis so.
But do those who have never known
The empty hours spent alone
Have the right to wag a finger of blame
And proclaim
“Shame on he
Who bribes the unwilling she
With a pot of gold
And does not care
That no rainbow leads her there …”.
