Leaving and other poems by Kevin Morris

My thanks to Hannah for reading and reviewing my recently released poetry collection Leaving and Other Poems, which is available from Amazon in Kindle and paperback.

Hannah's avatarEchoes In An Empty Room

A collection of poems touching on the brevity of life, and the ever-present figure of Old Father Time. Also, sprinkled throughout are a number of humorous verses, some of which may remind the reader of Edward Lear.

My Thoughts:

I love it when Kevin Morris brings out another poem book, I always feel as though I can relate to his poems, they bring a sense of calmness to me when reading them. There is a great selection of poems in this book, all Kevin’s poems are beautifully written and I feel as though they really resonate with the reader. I liked snow, Ivy on a Churchyard Tree and Autumn’s Dead Leaves to name but a few. I would highly recommend reading this book as it is full of some fantastic poems, to bring a sense of calm in ones life.

I received an ARC copy of this book for an…

Eternity

Shall I intrude

Into their quietude?

The wind sings

As I,

Alone

Pass by

Gravestone.

Time has stopped,

For those below.

I have the clock

And somewhere to go.

But the wind sings

Softly to me

In the churchyard tree.

I am very pleased to host a guest post from Kevin. He has a new book of poetry coming out, and has included one of the poems in his post.

The Last Day of August

The final day of August
Brings Autumn’s coming chill.
Perhaps this is the last
Of Summer’s new-mown grass.
The eternal breeze
Rustles the leaves
And my once brown hair.

(The above poem is taken from my forthcoming collection, Leaving and
Other Poems, which will be available from Amazon in late January/early
February 2022. My Selected Poems is available in paperback and Kindle

“Being and Being Bought: Prostitution, Surrogacy and the Split Self”, by Kajsa Ekis Ekman – book review

Whatever one’s view of the rights and wrongs of prostitution, this book (reviewed by me in 2018) is worth a read.

This review is of “Being and Being Bought: Prostitution, Surrogacy and the Split Self”, by Kajsa Ekis Ekman, (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1742198767/).

In “Being and Being Bought” Eckman argues that prostitution entails the exploitation of women by men. Women are (in Ekman’s view) “prostituted” (the word being used by her to denote the lack of free agency of those engaged in the world’s oldest profession).

Ekman contends that many of those who are “prostituted” develop a “split self”. The “prostituted” woman attempts to convince herself that she is “selling sex” rather than her very self. However for Ekman the act of selling sex can not be separated from the person (the “prostituted” woman who is doing the selling, for they are one and the same. Sex does not walk around the market place selling itself, for it has no existence independent of the “prostituted” woman. Likewise, Ekman contends one can not sell one’s…

WordPress Unfollowing: A New Glitch

I also have had instances of WordPress unfollowing my blog without the bloggers in question having taken the decision to no longer subscribe to this site. I know this as some of the bloggers in question have commented that this has happened, meaning that they have been forced to refollow kmorrispoet.com.
I usually post on a daily basis. Therefore, if you don’t receive a post from this blog for 7-10 days, do please feel free to check that you remain subscribed to this site. I value all of my readers and I don’t want to lose subscribers unless they actively choose to unsubscribe from my blog.

Over the past couple of months, WordPress has been ‘unfollowing’ me from a group of bloggers who have all followed me for some time. This has happened to Beth, Liz Guffreau, and a few others. Today, it happened to Jude, one of the first people to ever follow this blog.

What’s going on, WordPress?

I have also had some of my comments on other blogs ‘Trashed’ by WordPress. Most recently some comments on Stevie Turner’s blog.

I get that uneasy feeling that good old WordPress is up to something behind the scenes. Perhaps another ‘innovation’?

And when they are doing that, it is rarely about anything good.
