Our Own Hell

I heard school children at play

On a late December day.

Soon I will turn 57.

Will I be nearer to heaven?

Or to hell?

I’ve  heard mythologists tell

How gods play

With women and men,

And how we have no chance against them.

On this winter’s day

In late December, I know that our fate

Lies in man’s hands.

When the jackboots stamp in the concentration camps

Men create living hell

And no gods weep.

The Myths of Ancient Egypt

Foth is the Egyptian god of wisdom. I recently came across this wonderful retelling of the Egyptian myth, “The Book of Foth”, in which 2 royal personages go in search of Foth’s book. The book contains all the wisdom of the world and as one might expect the consequences for those who find and read Foth’s work are dire, (http://www.egyptianmyths.net/mythbookthoth.htm).

The site contains many other marvellous retellings of the myths of ancient Egypt, including “The Girl with the Rose-Red Slippers” which is, perhaps the earliest example of the “Cinderella” story, (http://www.egyptianmyths.net/mythslippers.htm).

For anyone interested in ancient Egypt or in mythology I recommend checking out this excellent site, (http://www.egyptianmyths.net/index.html).

Problem With Kindle Countdown Deal Or So It Seems

On 18 December my Kindle Countdown Deal on An Act Of Mercy was scheduled to start. As of 19 December my collection of short stories still appears on amazon.com at $3.54 rather than the reduced price of 99 cents which I set for the duration of the promotion (18-24 December). I have contacted the god Amazon to ascertain what has gone awry but as of now they have not responded. Please accept my apologies if you have visited amazon.com looking to download An Act of Mercy at it’s reduced price. I will update you once I have received a response from Amazon.

Yours in perplexity
