Braille Editions of My Books

As a registered blind person and a user of braille, I believe that my books should be available in accessible formats, including braille.

My Old Clock I Wind” is available in braille for loan or sale, from the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB).

To order please email library@rnib.org.uk, or call RNIB on 0303 123 9999 (quoting order number 25870603.

Lost in the Labyrinth of My Mind” is also available in braille from RNIB, and can be ordered (as above), by quoting order number 25686204.

Due to the Corona virus, the RNIB transcription service is not currently accepting orders for the production of braille books. I am, however working with a private transcription company arranging for my recently released poetry collection, “Light and Shade” to be transcribed into braille.

If you are interested in obtaining “Light and Shade” in braille, please email me at kmorrispoet (at) gmail dot com, putting “Light and Shade”, Braille edition in the subject line of your message. (My email address is rendered thus in an attempt to defeat spammers).

All of my books are also available, with text to speech enabled, from Amazon, which ensures they can be read by those who are unable to read print.

To visit my Amazon author page (which contains links to my books) please click here, https://www.amazon.com/K.-Morris/e/B00CEECWHY/.
“Light and Shade” is currently not displayed on my author page. It can, however be found by clicking here, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08B37VVKV/.

My “Selected Poems” will soon be available in Braille from RNIB

On 23 August 2019, I announced that my “Selected Poems” is available for purchase in the Amazon Kindle store, https://kmorrispoet.com/2019/08/23/my-selected-poems-is-now-available-for-purchase-in-the-kindle-store/. And soon afterwards my book became available in paperback.

Yesterday (14 November), I received an email from the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) informing me that “The Selected Poems of K Morris” will be available in braille in the next couple of weeks. As someone who is registered blind and unable to read print, I am, of course delighted that I will soon own a braille copy of my book, and that other braille users will be able to read my “Selected Poems”.

2 previous collections of mine, (“Lost in the Labyrinth of My Mind” and “My Old Clock I Wind”) are also available to purchase in both Kindle and braille formats. For “Lost” please visit https://kmorrispoet.com/2017/07/21/lost-in-the-labyrinth-of-my-mind-is-available-to-purchase-in-braille-from-rnib/, and for “my Old Clock” please go to https://kmorrispoet.com/2017/08/09/my-old-clock-i-wind-and-other-poems-is-available-in-braille-from-rnib/.

As a child, I learned to read braille from an early age and still own quite a braille library, ranging from “The New Oxford Book of English Verse” to Poe’s “Tales of Mystery and Imagination”. I am pleased that “My Selected Poems” will soon join my collection of books in braille.

For anyone unfamiliar with braille and who is interested in learning more, you can do so by visiting this link, https://www.rnib.org.uk/braille-and-other-tactile-codes-portal-braille-past-present-and-future/invention-braille.

“Shadows” Revisited

On 3 December 2016, I wrote “Shadows” https://newauthoronline.com/2017/10/03/shadows-3/. My poem was prompted by the play of shadows created by the winter sun upon the walls of my study.

Today (Sunday 3 December 2017), it is (as was the case one year ago) a cold day. There are, however no shadows playing upon the walls of my study.

“Shadows” appears in my latest collection of poetry, “My Old Clock I Wind”, which is available from Moyhill Publishing, and Amazon.

“My Old Clock I Wind” is also available in braille from the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB).

To order “My Old Clock” in braille please contact RNIB on 0303 123 9999 or buy online at http://shop.rnib.org.uk/.

When contacting RNIB please quote order number 25870603

Alternatively please visit the library’s catalogue, and enter the search term, “my old clock I wind and other poems”, hit search and my book should be displayed.

The Cane Explained

The Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) has produced a short film, explaining how sight impaired people navigate using the white cane.

Prior to getting my first guide dog, Nixon (no jokes about Watergate please), I used a white cane to navigate. I well remember people not paying attention to what was going on around them and tripping over my cane.

Admittedly, when I was in the process of learning to navigate using a cane, some of the tripping stemmed from my imperfect utilisation of it. However, as my technique improved, the tripping incidents which did happen flowed from the lack of attention demonstrated by sighted people (I apologised none the less)!

I am now working with my fourth guide dog, Trigger so my use of the cane is extremely rare.

However, back in 2016 Trigger had several lumps removed (fortunately all where found to be benign). While he recovered (a period of some 2 weeks), I used my cane.

Having fallen out of practice I had several bumps and scrapes as a consequence of my imperfect technique. I was, however soon back in the saddle and my acquaintance with telegraph poles and other obstacles became a distant memory.

For RNIB’s film on the cane please visit http://rnib.org.uk/cane-explained.

My collection of poetry, “Lost in the Labyrinth of My Mind” is available, as a braille book from RNIB https://newauthoronline.com/2017/07/21/lost-in-the-labyrinth-of-my-mind-is-available-to-purchase-in-braille-from-rnib/. “Lost” can also be obtained, in print and ebook formats from Moyhill http://moyhill.com/lost/.

I am working with RNIB to make my recently published collection of poetry, “My Old Clock I Wind” available in braille. Once “My Old Clock” has been added to RNIB’s shelves, an announcement will appear here.

In the meantime “My Old Clock” can be purchased, in ebook and paperback formats from Moyhill http://moyhill.com/clock/.

Availability of My Books in Braille

3-braille-books

I posted yesterday (24 September) regarding the availability in braille of my collection of poetry, “Refractions”. In that post I also mentioned the availability of my previously published collections, “Dalliance” and “Lost in the Labyrinth of My Mind”.
All of the above books where transcribed into braille by the Royal National Institute of Blind People’s Ivybridge Transcription Service, and should be available to borrow from RNIB’s Library,
While I hold braille copies of “Refractions”, “Lost” and “Dalliance”, on checking the library’s catalogue this morning I was unable to find any record of my books having been added to RNIB’s stock.

I have raised a query with RNIB and await their response.
If anyone is interested in obtaining a braille copy of any of the above books, please contact library@rnib.org.uk in the first instance, (please feel free to mention that the publications have been transcribed by Ivybridge).

If you experience problems in obtaining my books in braille please don’t hesitate to contact me at newauthoronline (at) gmail (dot) com.

“Dalliance; A Collection Of Poetry And Prose” Is Now Available In Braille

On returning home yesterday evening I was excited to open a package from the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) and find it contained my book, “Dalliance; A Collection Of Poetry And Prose” in Braille. Although “Dalliance” is available as an ebook with text to speech enabled, allowing visually impaired people to read it, I wanted my own copy in Braille and requested that RNIB transcribe “Dalliance”. It is a wonderful feeling to hold a braille edition of “Dalliance” and know that the book will be made available for other Braille readers to borrow.

RNIB advise that “Dalliance” will be added to the library catalogue, (http://www.rnib.org.uk/services-we-offer-reading-services-rnib-national-library-service/library-catalogue). This does not appear to have happened yet. It is however early days and I am sure the book will soon be available for RNIB library members to access.

(”Dalliance; A Collection Of Poetry And Prose” can be found on Amazon by visiting http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dalliance-collection-poetry-prose-Morris-ebook/dp/B00QQVJC7E. A print edition is also available from me. For enquiries regarding the print edition please email newauthoronline (at) gmail dot com).
