In the Dark

In the dark
An urban
Fox’s bark
Pierces my heart.

I maintain
The urbane.
Amongst friends.

But, in the end,
The glass is thin
Betwixt me and him.

You are right, Michael. We (unlike animals) possess conscience. However man often goes against his conscience/better judgement, and the animal within can so easily override what we call conscience. All the best. Kevin

The veil between us and animals is thinner than we think. Sadly, few people recognise that we are animals, too, and are not apart from the ecology of the world.

You make a good point about ecology. Perhaps part of the problem is that few of us live in the countryside and see nature as she truly is, with her great beauty and her (to us at least) great cruelties also. I often hear the foxes bark and the hooting of owls as I live near to a small woodland (Spa Wood) in south-east London. All the best. Kevin

I like this very much Kevin. I often read your poetry but can no longer Like or Comment unless I am on my old old old iPad, which I am now, but the thing is dying on me! But I am reading. Best, Lorraine
