Ape

There can be hardly anybody left on WordPress who is not familiar with the logo above, or has not heard of Chris, the Story Reading Ape.  Chris runs a promotional platform here on WordPress, and publishes valuable information and advice for Indie authors like myself.  Today for a change I thought I’d turn the spotlight around so that you can all find out a little bit more about Chris, the Story Reading Ape.

Thanks Chris, for answering my 20 questions!

  1. You say you’re not an author, but have you ever thought of writing a short story, poem or novel?

Yes I have posted several (very) short stories, you can find them under TSRA TALES in my blog NAVIGATION Tab ( http://thestoryreadingapeblog.com/blog-navigation/tsra-tales/ )

  1. Whereabouts in the world do you live?

I currently live in Manchester, England, but I don’t originate from there (big furry pointy fanged grin)

  1. What made you decide to champion the Indie author?

In December 2012…

Forthcoming Poetry Collection

A friend asked me recently whether I intend to publish a further collection of my poetry. The answer is yes, I aim to publish a further collection in early 2016.
Drawing together the book will entail reading through poems and determining what (and what not) to include. It also means deciding which poems to publish (as is) and which to amend. Finally the book will be proof read by a professional proof reader. As regards the latter, I always publish my poetry as written by me (poetry is a very personal thing as it expresses the poets inner soul and it is not, in my view the role of a proof reader and/or editor to suggest changes to the language and/or style employed by the poet. I use a proof reader to check for typographical errors and to correct punctuation by, for example replacing a comma with a semi colon where necessary).
As with my previous collections, I intend to include poems on a variety of topics, rather than producing a book replete with nature or humorous verse and nothing else,as this is what I personally look for in an anthology/collection of poetry. Variety is as someone once remarked, “the spice of life”.

Copyright Notice

This post (http://aopinionatedman.com/2015/12/09/copyright-online-theft-and-blogging/) prompted me to post a Copyright Notice (http://newauthoronline.com/copyright-notice/) on this site. I had fully intended to add such a notice for some considerable time. I had, however not got round to doing so until today.
Wordpress offers a re-blogging function, allowing the sharing of a small part of posts, with readers being directed to the original source. I welcome re-blogs and am grateful to everyone who takes the time to share my work in this way. Consequently the above Notice should not be taken as a prohibition on re-blogging. The Notice is intended to prevent the taking of content by a minority of individuals and the passing off of such content as their own work. I hope that the Notice will protect my work and that of those who have honoured me by guest posting on newauthoronline.com.

Good Poets Borrow, Great Poets Steal…

A fascinating post. Kevin

A reporter for NPR’s Morning Edition used my favorite misquote in her “Stanford Center Advocates for Fair Use on the Web” piece that aired on May 7, 2007. Though the quote is usually attributed to T.S. Eliot, the reporter attributed a slightly altered version of “Good poets borrow, great poets steal” to Picasso, this time it was “good artists copy, great artists steal.”

I heard the quote “good poets borrow, great poets steal” for the first time on December 16, 2006, in a commentary about fair use and copyright Bill Hammack, a chemical engineering professor, made on MarketPlace.

My mind was blown. In my earlier, more literate, youth, poetry and poets occupied a great deal of my time. I could not imagine T.S. Eliot would have said such a thing.

I had my aunt consult Bartlett’s Familiar Quotations and other sources in her library, and she did not…

Catherine Wheel

Sometimes I feel
Like a Catherine wheel,
My words as sparks,
Lighting the dark.
But who in December
remembers
The fifth of November?

In the United Kingdom, Bonfire or Guy Fawkes Night takes place on 5 November. The above was written on 9 December 2015.

Under

Someone went under a train today.
We commuters continued on our way.
There is nothing one can say.
Another person went under a train today.

As I walked through Embankment tube station this morning, the announcer apologised for the slight delays caused by a person having gone under a train. This is, sadly a regular occurance in London. One thinks briefly of the poor individual (and their family and friends) then, as one must, continue on one’s way. Most such instances are suicides (or attempted suicides), while a few are accidents.
