When money and sex meet,
They play a weary game.
There is neither victory nor defeat,
Only face-burning shame

Cheshire Cat
My finger lingers
Over the delete button.
One little caress, a mere press
And the process
Will be complete.
The call button.
Am I a glutton
For the fire
With a desire
To burn on a pyre
Of my own making?
Heads shaking
I see
Telling me
I need to be free
Of thee.
One final spree
For you and me?
I imagine the glee
In your eyes
Where no pitty lies.
The smile
Of the Cheshire cat vanishes while
Only a thin lipped grin
Of distaine remains.
Self
He met an elf
Intent on self.
Taking her down
From the shelf
He did forsake the straight path
And with a bitter laugh
In self
Man and elf
Drowned.
There Was A Young Lady From Rangoon
There was a young lady from Rangoon
Who met a man by the light of the moon.
To her delight
She discovered that night
An extremely hairy baboon …!
The Sprite’s Tune
The nymph of tomorrow
Portends sorrow,
While the sprite of today
Sounds a doleful lay
On her violin
Of sin.
Round the budding rose
The satyr goes,
Listening to music sad
That will drive him mad.
the sprites continue to play.
There music divine
Does say
“Drink of my wine
Forbidden
And in caverns hidden
We will spend our day”.
The satyr doth long
For wine more strong
Than any taken
Before.
He tastes, and is left forsaken
And forever craving more.

Chiffon
Shimmering
In chiffon.
In fabric sheer
She passes near
Then is gone.
Shadows on the wall
I recall.
One can not catch a shade
For it is made
Of moonbeams
And passing dreams.
The Fair
When we go to the fair
All life is there.
One’s fortune may be told
For a piece of bright gold
By the crone
Who seeing the lone
Girl, the one with the wistful look in her eye
Looks into her crystal ball and does lie.
“I see
What will be.
A tall dark handsome stranger comes your way”
She may say.
Or looking into the tea leaves and seeing only damp dust,
Thinks “needs must”
And a smile
Does beguile
In a thirsty heart.
We all play our part.
The storeholder does grin
For he offers baubles to win.
We take
And perhaps, afterwards, rue our mistake.
The day has barely begun.
Yet the fair goers after pleasure run.
All must have their fun
While the sun
Is high
In the sky.
At night the rides are idle.
A black cat does sidle
Into the fortune teller’s tent.
A clatter
As the crystal ball does shatter
And dreams that where never meant
Are forever rent.
Current Affairs
“I am a moral man” the editor said.
The weak dread
My investigations,
For my mission is to purify the nations!
My interest is the public good.
I would like to see the country free of vice
And my paper in every home, yes that would be nice!
What, you dare to ask about an editor’s private life?!
I tell you sir, I have a wife!
Working late with my secretary? what has that to do with you?!
She’s pretty, you say. Well, there’s no denying that’s true …!”
