The door opened and Mabryl entered shaking his cloak out as he did so. ‘It’s cold out there and it’s turning to snow if I’m not much mistaken. Unusual this far south.’

He hung his cloak on a stand by the door before turning to his three apprentices. ‘Have you finished the tasks I set you?’

Carthinal walked to the fire and added a fresh log to the flames. ‘Come and get warm, and, no I’ve not finished. I can’t settle down to anything until I hear about whether I can take the tests soon. Emmienne has finished though. I can’t say about Tomac.’

‘Nearly,’ Tomac jumped from his chair and carried his workbook to his master. ‘I was a little stuck on the moon phases though. It’s complicated trying to work out both moons at the same time.’

‘Stick to it, youngster,’ Emmienne said from the window seat…

This little book consists of serious and humorous verses. The poems range from those dealing with nature and mortality, through to limericks and other humorous verses.

My Thoughts:

Here we have some funny but also thought provoking poems and limericks. I have to say I do prefer the limericks that are in this book as they are very amusing. My favourite poem in the book is Sparrows in the tree as we get a lot of sparrows in our garden, they are very common in the UK. Now every time I see a sparrow I will be thinking of this poem. My favourite limerick in here is There once was a turkey called Paul, just from the title alone you know it is going to be funny. I laughed my socks off on this limerick. Thank you once again to Kevin who has written some truly fantastic verses.

The Underwater World

As I gently shut my eyes
I start recalling the day
The summery tropical afternoon
I spent snorkeling by the bay

The fresh turquoise water
Touches against my face
And right underneath me
Unravels a captivating place

Shoals of vibrant fish
Swimming all around
In every possible color
Yellow, red, or brown

An underwater paradise
Formed by exotic coral reefs
Large living and breathing structures
Home to a plethora of beings

A world of unknown
I gaze at the ocean floor
An aesthetic scenery
A mystical world to explore

Flowers in my mum’s garden

Flowers in my mum’s garden

Bring to mind

A former time

When my grandfather grew roses.

I remember the scent

Of roses in his garden.

And my attempt

To make perfume.

In youth

Few engage with age.

And the truth

That roses,

Are gone so soon.

Silently, Thadora and Fero slipped through the rapidly lightning forest until they came out on an escarpment overlooking some flatter land. The trees disappeared here, and they could see the Grosmerian plain spread before them. To the east, the hills continued to rise to meet the mountains, but to the north and west the plains began.

Tracts of forest and open countryside separated small farmsteads They could just make out the lights coming on in Roffley, a day’s journey away, as people rose to their morning tasks.

Fero held out his hand to warn Thadora to be silent. They wormed their way forward on their stomachs, and looked down from the cliff top to the plain below and found themselves about twenty feet above the plain . Below them they saw a pack of wolves.
