The Perils of Writing

When guilty men

Dip their pen

Into black ink,

Later they may regret

And by burning the whole

Hope to conceal their soul.

The wise use ink,

But others regret

The damnable internet!

Yes, if you write on paper, you can destroy it, but what you write on the internet is there forever. A fact too many people forget. And sometimes it comes back to bite them.

Thanks for commenting, Vivienne. Indeed it does. I feel especially sorry for young teenagers who put something online when their brain is still developing, which they later bitterly regret. Nevertheless it comes back to bite them as you so rightly say.

I think it’s a pity when, say, employers see something someone posted when in their teens and hold it against them decades later. We’ve all done and said stupid things in our teens, but not all are out there for the world to see.
