A friend emailed me this morning, with a reminder that it is National Limerick Day, (https://nationaltoday.com/national-limerick-day/). So, in honour of this event I have composed the below limerick:
There was a young lady named Gale
Whose activities made her mother turn pale.
She went out to sea
With a vicar called Lee,
And used her dress as a sail!

Ahoy me hearties….
Hi Ivor. Do you also have your dress flying from the mast?
Sorry, Kevin…. it’s all torn and tattered…..
Ah. Then you will need to get a new sail, dress or both …
I’ll go for both, my ship is sinking fast….
“My Ship is Sinking Fast” sounds like a great title for a song or maybe a work of literature Ivor.
I’m not much of a sailor Kevin, I think I’ll have to start swimming…..
Reblogged this on Chris The Story Reading Ape's Blog and commented:
There was an old ape who read books
Who used to get puzzled looks
As zoo visitors gazed
With eyes that were glazed
At the books he had stashed in his nooks
Many thanks for sharing my limerick Chris. I enjoyed your limerick and wish you luck with every book you keep in your nook.
All my favourites are there, Kevin
There is one requirement for a true limerick that you did not mention. A real limrick should be quite bawdy. I guess this is a GP website.
Thanks for your comment. By “GP” I guess you mean general purpose and/or general poetry? I enjoy all kinds of poetry (including the bawdy). However my limericks tend towards the risque rather than the bawdy. Best, Kevin
Well, it is a bit naughty–she would have to take off the dress to turn it into a sail. One can imagine what the vicar thought of that!
Bawdy by insinuation? I’m sure the townspeople would BOO, lol.
