The Value of Poetry

Do say
How much would you pay
For a book of 92 pages
(It took me ages
And many rewrites,
Oft late into the night
To get my poetry right!)

Do you care, dear reader how I toiled
Over the midnight oil
To produce this slim volume?
Which will grace your room
(or maybe not, its true
For it all depends on one’s point of view)!

Many a man will his sorrows drown
In a night on the town,
And choose
To Spend his cash
In a manner most rash,
And will selfishly refuse
To pay for a poet’s booze …!

There Was A Young Lady Called Claire

There was a young lady called Claire
Who point blank refused to swear.
She met a man named Dan,
Who had an extremely naughty plan,
Which nearly made Claire swear!

There was a young lady called Heather

There was a young lady called Heather,
Who was most terribly clever.
She wrote poetry that no one could understand
And was lauded throughout the land,
By critics, who thought her most terribly clever!

A couple of limericks

There was a young lady called Molly
Who purchased an expensive brolly.
Much to her dismay
The brolly blew away,
So she bought a shopping trolley!

There was a young lady called Holly
Who was extremely posh and jolly.
She married a man of lowly station,
Which caused her family much consternation,
But the vicar was fat and jolly!

There was a young author named Hurn

There was a young author named Hurn
Who lived in a place called Pitcairn.
He wrote about a girl he knew,
Which one aught not to do!
So they drummed him out of Pitcairn!

Summer Is

Summer is stinging bees
And flies on the cheese
That mother put out,
(Oh hear her shout)!

Summer is a gentle breeze
That ruffles the skirts
Of girls who tease
And flirt.

Summer is too much wine
And crossing a line
Though (at the time)
This seemed perfectly fine …
