The theme for National Poetry Month 2022 is There’s A Poem in This Place. Two places to find contemporary poetry at its most vibrant are in the blogging community and at live readings. On 23 April 2022 from 4-5:30 PM ET, the two places come together when a select group of poets from the blogosphere present a live reading of their poetry at Poets in the Blogosphere. Most poetry is meant to be read aloud, and hearing poets read their own work is a heightened experience. The event is moderated by Elizabeth Gauffreau. #NationalPoetryMonth #blogpoetsread2022

  • Title: Leaving and Other Poems
  • Author: K. Morris
  • Genre: Poetry
  • Pages: 90 pages
  • Publication date: January 25, 2022

Thank you, K. Morris, for giving me a copy of the book in exchange for a fair review!

I’ve enjoyed K. Morris’ last twobooks, so I of course picked up Leaving and Other Poems. This collection is split into two sections, though not as defined. Like previous collections, the first section has more thought-provoking poems, while the second section has humorous ones.

The thought-provoking ones followed themes of birds, death, and trees. It has more of a mentality about what survives after we are gone. Through this section, there are a handful of lines that stood out as absolutely brilliant. The funny section is a lot shorter but lighthearted and puts one in a good mood.

For this collection, I do feel like some…

Does Grammar Matter?

A thought provoking view regarding the importance of grammar, https://capx.co/theres-nothing-kafkaesque-about-learning-the-rules-of-english-grammar/.

I must confess to having forgotten some of the rules which, as a child where inculcated into my young mind.

Russia Invades Ukraine: An Act of War By A Dictatorship

I agree completely with the views expressed in this post. I stand with the people of Ukraine against the unprovoked aggression of Vladimir Putin.
Its instructive to note that many of the apologists for Russia’s aggression in Ukraine come from the far-left or the far-right of the political spectrum. Communists and fascists are equally detestable and the ideology of Putin draws on both political traditions.

I try very hard to stay away from politics in my blog. I attempt to deal with writing and creativity, but some events demand that writers speak out.

Russia, led by Putin, has invaded Ukraine, a sovereign nation and is conducting war against that country. Additionally, some in the U.S.A. are actively supporting Putin, and that is horrifying. How can an American support the actions of a Fascist dictator against another country? Have we forgotten the Soviet Union, and have we ceased to remember the actions of Hitler?

I am not calling for America to go to war, but everything that can be done to stop and/or punish Russia for this craven attack on Ukraine must be done. Americans need to cease using this as a political football to attack the other party–that is unconscionable and utterly devoid of morality.

I fear for the lives on innocent people in Ukraine…

Hurricane

It has been blowing a gale here in Crystal Palace/Upper Norwood today. Indeed parts of the UK have suffered much more than we have here in south-east London.
When I went out with my dog Apollo at lunchtime many fallen leaves and some branches littered the woodland path and the pavements.

The weather reminded me of this poem of mine.

I want to come in.
The din
I make.
The trees I shake.
I awake
the old fear
Of nature wild and near.
People quale indoors.
There is no applause
when the gale doth come.
Animals run
for shelter
helter skelter
seeking release
from the hurricane’s teeth.
The morning brings peace
And trees
Lying amongst fallen leaves.
