Saints and Mere Mortals

The pious wag their fingers
While love’s perfume
Lingers
In a darkened room,
Where mere mortals enjoy
That which the saint would destroy.

This is interesting. Is there anything in particular that inspired this piece of writing?

Thank you for your comment/question. A quote from Hamlet inspired me, namely,
“What should such fellows as I do crawling between earth and heaven? We are arrant knaves, all. Believe none of us”.
      Best wishes. Kevin
