I wake
And feel an ache
In my bones.
I must
Engage with cramp
For age
Has left a stamp
On me
And dust
Hides in corners.
You may
Clear the dust away
But ’tis a never ending task
Which, at last
Will defeat
The best of men.
And the ache reminds thee
And me
That, in the end
The dust will win, my friend
Aargh..dust! Yes, it does hide in corners, Kevin. I’m afraid I have quite a few trinkets, I also don’t like dusting very much..not a good combination haha! Thank goodness I don’t get cramp, although I know it’s very painful..still it could be a good excuse as to why I haven’t dusted, again! 😁
Thanks for your comment Debbie. I must confess to having a lady clean, iron and launder for me every Monday. Its worth every penny as it gives me more time for writing and, of course it helps to keep the dust away! The poem is about the literal (household) dust, however we are, when we die all dust in the end and, indeed we are composed of cosmic dust. Best wishes – Kevin
I think I must’ve been a bit tired when I was reading your poem last night, Kevin. Sometimes I only get chance to catch up pretty late in the day. It’s late now, but I’ve just re-read it & can see how either meaning works so wonderfully well, but especially the dust when we die.. excellent! Oh, & I don’t blame you having a cleaning lady for all those tedious chores! Have a great Friday, Kevin.
Thanks, Debbie. Most poems are open to a variety of interpretations. That is the beauty of the art form. Indeed I remember attributing a particular meaning to one of your own poems, and you explaining what had inspired the writing of the piece, which put a different complexion on your poem. Once our verse is out in the world our readers will, of course put their own interpretations upon it. You too, have a great Friday. All the very best – Kevin
You’re so right, Kevin..indeed, we have discussed meanings before, it’s a fascinating subject! Hope you have a great weekend! 😊
Thank you, Debbie. You also, have a lovely weekend! All the best – Kevin
This is very true but not very cheerful, Kevin.
Many thanks for your comment, Robbie. What is true, is not always cheerful. Have a great weekend. Best wishes – Kevin
