When you get your thousand pound
Handbag will it make a profound
Difference to who you are?
Throw in a fast car
And you on the arm of a film star.
I wonder, as I stand
Pint in hand
On the other side of the bar
Whether such things
Can happiness bring.
Would you throw over your boyfriend
For a man who would spend
All his money
On a sweet, brainless honey?
In any event why should I care
For it is not my affair
And we all have our interests such as they are,
Mine being poetry, and yours a fast car.
I’d be happy living in a small cottage by a body of water. Material things can’t feed our souls. If we base our happiness on the things we own, we’re bound to be unsatisfied and in constant need of more things to satisfy the hunger. Like you, my poetry (for what it’s worth lol) brings me joy and fills my soul. 🙂
Many thanks for your great comment Brenda. I can add little to what you say other than to hope that your creative spirit, expressed through your writing, continues to provide you and others with pleasure and a window on the world. Very best wishes. Kevin
That’s so kind of you to say, Kevin. 🙂 Best wishes to you and yours as well. 🙂
I like this a lot, Kevin. Money can’t buy health or happiness so no, I wouldn’t entertain such a notion. 😀
Many thanks for your comment Tess. I’m pleased you like my poem. I agree with what you say. As is often said about worldly possessions, “you cant take it with you when you go”! Kevin
