There Are No Pockets In A Shroud

There are no pockets in a shroud.
The proud
And the humble
All must tumble
Into the grave.
But you should save
One solitary coin
To enjoin
The ferryman to take you on
Your final journey.

Thank you, Mick. I was, of course already familiar with this quote. However when my mum’s partner recently used it, the germ of a poem developed in my mind. Consequently I owe a debt of gratitude to my mum’s partner for reminding me of this quote and providing me with the inspiration to write the poem.
