Supermarket aisles.
Plastic smiles
And chrysanthemums I bought
As they brought
To mind
My grandfather’s garden, and hours
Spent amongst the scent
Of flowers.
Yet I find
But little scent
In these doctored blooms.

Too true about the scent of flowers. What do we think of when we think of roses. Beautiful flowers, yes, but also a lovely scent. YetnI was given some roses for my birthday. No smell at all.
I’m sorry to hear that your birthday roses where scentless. I do wonder whether, with there being so many allergies around, whether producers/sellers of flowers are concerned about sparking an allergic reaction in customers/those who receive flowers, hence more blooms not having any (or very little) smell. Sometimes I think that society is becoming ever more plastic. Thanks for your comment. Best – Kevin
