According to an article in “The Telegraph” a new generation are buying books in order to express their personality. Some of these books remain unread on shelves but, a Foyle’s representative does not see this as a problem as, sooner or later these works will be picked up by their owner and read. Well, there we go again. Truth be told, we still have some age old books from my grand-grandparents. Plays, that were bought for the sake of seeming sophisticated…
Thanks for your comment. That is very interesting and its great to know that you have a connection, through books with your great grandparents. Have you read the works in question or is that on your to-do list? Best, Kevin
It would take a f-load of time. And they are written in an old handwriting, Kurrent. It’s quite difficult to read.
Wow, they must be very old as they are hand-written rather than being printed! Anyway you have some fascinating historical artifacts on your bookshelves.
Nonono, they’re printed. Sorry, used the wrong term. And they aren’t that old. I’d say 30 years. Tops.
Ah, I understand. Despite being blind I own several old books given to me by a close friend (Reader’s Digest titles which will be read when I get around to purchasing a scanner which converts text into speech. I already have the software on my PC but no similar scanning software).
Oh, I wasn’t aware that you were blind. Sorry for you… I hope it’ll work once you get the scanner!
Life is good. I have my Kindle which has text to speech enabled allowing me to read most of the titles in the Amazon Kindle store. Also advances in technology mean I can use a speech enabled (standard) mobile phone which lets me send and receive texts, browse the internet etc. Growing up it was mainly braille books which entertained me but the introduction of ebooks and other technology has greatly enhanced the position of visually impaired people. Best. Kevin
I’m glad to hear that. I hope you continue to master your life like this. Best, Nom.
Huh. Interesting, isn’t it? 😀
Thanks for your comment Tess. It is, as you say interesting! Best. Kevin
