      In all honesty, no although, thinking about it I can understand why people might reach that view. Your mention of elections does, however remind me of Beloc’s “Lines On A General Election” which, from memory run something like this, “The acursed power which goes with champagne, women and bridge, broke and democracy resumed her reign, which goes with women, bridge and champagne”.
