The below poem by the American poet, Emily Dickinson is deceptive in it’s simplicity. The final 2 lines arrest the attention of the reader,
“Ah Little Rose — how easy
For such as thee to die!”.
Nobody Knows This Little Rose By Emily Dickinson
Nobody knows this little Rose —
It might a pilgrim be
Did I not take it from the ways
And lift it up to thee.
Only a Bee will miss it —
Only a Butterfly,
Hastening from far journey —
On its breast to lie —
Only a Bird will wonder —
Only a Breeze will sigh —
Ah Little Rose — how easy
For such as thee to die!
Melancholy. ❤
Yes, but poignant and beautiful. Kevin
Yes, that too. Agreed. ❤
So strong, beautiful and melancholy. I love it.
I agree with you absolutely. It is a wonderful poem. Kevin
The poem is shadowy and moody, but it is very beautiful. Poor, unnoticed rose, was picked and left to die, and the things that will miss it and care for it are the small, insignificant creatures. Was the poem a symbol of Emily herself. Love the poem. Reach me at readwithmeromancenovels.wordpress.com
Thanks for your comment and interpretation of Dickinson’s poem which does, I believe have merit. It is interesting that you see the rose as, in some way symbolising Emily herself. Kevin
