Possible Anthology To Raise Money For Guide Dogs

I lost the majority of my vision at around 18-months-old as a consequence of a blood clot on the brain. In my early 20’s I received my first guide dog, Nixon (no jokes about Watergate please)! And a world of enhanced mobility was opened up to me. Since Nixon I have had 3 other dogs: Zeff, Drew and now Trigger my current four legged friend!

The Guide Dogs For The Blind Association receives no money from the government (see http://www.guidedogs.org.uk/supportus/fundraising/donate#.VBnqcBZUFb0) and relies wholly on donations from individuals/organisations.

As an author and beneficiary of the work of Guide Dogs I thought it would be worthwhile to give something back by producing a book of short stories and poems with all proceeds going to GDBA. I would, of course contribute a story. I am, however lacking in editorial/proof reading expertise and (if the project turns out to be viable) would be looking for someone to donate their time free of charge as regards editorial services. I am also looking for people who would be happy to provide a story or poem, free of charge for inclusion in an anthology.

At present this is the germ of an idea which may or may not have traction. If you can help in any way please do contact me at newauthoronline (@) gmail . com (the address is rendered thus to try and defeat spammers)!

Please note that I have not contacted GDBA regarding this concept as it is, at present the mere germ of an idea.

    What theme are you using for this charity anthology. I would love to contribute something to this to help you. I am not a great editor but I can write up something for you if I have a theme.

    My son’s lives with a diabetic alert dog, named “Nimbus.” A life-saver, he is. AMAZING, scenting low blood sugar before it falls low enough to cause a seizure in my son’s life. Thank God for service dogs. A wonderful post. Bless these animals.

      My grandfather was diabetic but, unfortunately there where no dogs to help diabetics in those days, although he did have a pet dog called Jet. You are right, assistance dogs do a wonderful much more than helpers, being friends to their owners. Many thanks for your comments. Very best wishes, Kevin

    I have recently compiled three anthologies involving the creations of a total of perhaps 35 or 40 writers and poets. Two of the books were published in the last sixty days or so and the third is scheduled for release later this month. Several people have offered their assistance with editing so while I really appreciate your kind offer it may be that the editing side is covered. I will e-mail you and we can take things from there.         Thanks. I am trying to persuade Trigger to write a story but, strictly between you and I he is more interested in stealing my colleague’s lunch, particularly their sandwitches, vacuuming up food off the pavement and, of course sleeping on my sofa when he thinks its possible to get away with it!

      Many thanks for your comment and reblogging Kev, it is much appreciated. I am looking for stories or poems regarding the relationship between animals (particularly, but not exclusively) dogs and humans. So any animal stories or poems would be very welcome. All the best, Kevin
