Twitter Limits Tweet Frequency

Yesterday evening I attempted to send a Tweet only to receive the message that I had exceeded my daily limit. I had not previously come across this and, following some Googling found this article in the Hollywood reporter which states:

“The company said it will now limit users to a maximum of 2,400 tweets a day, but users reported being prevented from tweeting far below that limit”, https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/digital/twitter-limits-tweet-frequency-1235320995/.

In addition to sharing my own poetry, I do share news articles and other material on Twitter. However, my daily Tweets have never come anywhere close to 2,400! Where they to do so I would be spending my whole day at my computer or on my mobile!

This is, obviously a manifestation of the problems besetting Twitter who are doing a good job of incentivising users such as myself to delete Twitter!

I shall monitor the situation but, if things don’t improve radically I shall be saying a not very fond farewell to Twitter!

Thanks for that link. It explains a lot. There was a massive outage of many SM platforms (across the political spectrum) so maybe that’s what triggered the warning. Hmm…

Thanks for commenting, Jacqui and my apologies for the delay in approving your comment. Its interesting that this happened across several other social media platforms and not just Twitter.

Thanks for sharing the BBC report, Chris, which helps to explain the issues faced by many people (including me). I am sure sacking all those employees hasn’t helped to put it mildly!

I remember your post announcing that you had left Twitter, Liz. I can understand why you don’t miss it. Among other things it can take up a lot of time which can be otherwise employed in writing.

Hadn’t heard this one. I appreciate that Musk and Company is trying to eliminate bots who take over a conversation (I just shut one down on my email!), but it certainly is not without problems. Sigh.

Thanks for commenting, Jacqui. And apologies again for the delay in approving your comment. I must confess to not being a huge fan of the way in which Mr Musk is running Twitter.

I got the same notice. I don’t think I sent more than 30 tweets. In the rules of Twitter, they say they will break the day into time increments. So, if you divide 2400 by 24 you get a rate of 100 tweets an hour. Divide that by 60 and you
get one and 2/3s tweets a minute. So in theory you could be blocked if you exceed two tweets per minute rate in any one hour. This is all guesswork on my part, but Twitter advises the user to come back in a few hours if they have been blocked. Crazy stuff but Twitter could be trying to get rid of bots that pound out tweets every second.

I came off Twitter several months ago. Not in response to Elon Musk, but because I had too many social media accounts and rarely used it. I didn’t find it easy to use.
As you say, though, 2400 tweets seem an awful lot. Can anyone possibly tweet that much and get anything else done? They must be very sad people!

Thanks for commenting, Vivienne. I tend to agree with you that those who spend their whole lives tweeting are rather sad. Having said that, I guess some newspapers, for example the Guardian or Telegraph must send many tweets daily. However, I still find it difficult to imagine that these publications (even taking into account their journalists accounts) actually reach that limit!
