As Insubstancial As A Dream

Last night I had one of those strange dreams which remain with you on waking. I dream most nights but rarely remember my dreams. On this occasion I fell into conversation with an author outside one of those trendy coffee places which have proliferated in London and other cities. He told me that every day he could be found sipping coffee at this establishment and went on to name several novels he had authored. I remember, while dreaming clearly recollecting the titles of the books he had authored, however, on waking their titles flew away to be remembered no more.

In my dream I felt envious that this man could enjoy a life of ease while I worked in a 9-5 occupation. I haven’t written anything substancial for a while so perhaps my dream is telling me that I need to start scribbling again. The ocean going yacht and the country cottage beckons …

I will keep my head well down to avoid rotten fruit being thrown in my direction. Re tomatos, my second guide dog, Zeff was notorious for stealing them as we walked around the supermarket. I guess he loved their sweet, juicy taste although I think he would have drawn the line at eating rotten ones!

I have had 4 guide dogs: Nixon (my first dog and no jokes about Watergate please)!, Zeff, Drew and now Trigger. Nixon, Zeff and Drew are now, sadly deceased but Trigger is still very much with us as was demonstrated yesterday when he went mad squeaking a squeaky toy which had been given to him by a former colleague’s daughter! Both Nixon and Zeff enjoyed a happy retirement but Drew became ill and died of heart failure while still working in March 2011 which was incredibly sad. Some people keep their retired dogs along with the working one but, due to me working fulltime it wouldn’t have been fair for me to do this as Nixon and Zeff would have been left alone at home all day. Have you ever seen a guide dog in India? I’m curious!

You should write a post about Guide Dogs and your relationship with them. It is so interesting to hear you talk about them – how you get them, how you name them, the funny things they do etc. I haven’t seen a single guide dog in India. I don’t even know if such a thing exists. I have seen them in England and Germany though.

Thanks for your suggestion which is a good one. Perhaps I could also get Trigger to write a post about what it is like to live and work with me! Seriously I will write something in the next week or so. Kevin
