I had the poet Ernest Christopher Dowson (one of the so-called Decadent Poets) in mind when I wrote this.
“He liked to rhyme
And was fond
Of women
And wine,
And sinning.
Now he has gone beyond
Women,
And wine,
And sinning.
And he is out of time
For rhyme”.
Poor man. No more fun and sin! Time waits for no one.
You are right, Vivienne, Kevin
He forgot the duties of a poet. 😉 xx Michael
If he did, he had fun in the process of forgetting … Seriously, a number of his poems (including Cynara) are informed by his dalliances with ladies of the night. Cynara is a fine poem. Kevin
