What is Free-Verse Poetry? – by Melissa Donovan…

Most of my poems are written in rhyme, although one should never force a rhyme where no rhyme should properly be. I find an intrinsic beauty in rhyming poetry but, of course such works as “The Wasteland” are truly great examples of free verse poetry.

Very interesting. I do read some free verse poetry, but definitely prefer to read it in rhyme, and only write it in rhyme, out of choice. It’s a bit like reading a book, if I don’t enjoy the style of the writer, in the first page or so, then I rarely continue, the same with listening to music. Funnily enough, I’m not keen on jazz, unless it’s a big band sound. When they start sounding like they’re playing from different scores, I’ve switched off. Yet, I like many different styles of music..be it Beethoven to Black Sabbath! I guess, it’s all about taste, or even possibly the way our individual brains are wired up. Good job we’re all different, eh!

I agree with you that variety is the spice of life and one mans meat is another mans poison. I, as with you enjoy a variety of music, but prefer the melodic to what I consider to be merely the noise generating. Likewise with poetry. Many thanks for your comment. Best – Kevin
